Almost half of the employees in Romania earn the minimum wage

09.07.2018

According to a research by the Local Investors Union – PIAROM and the Romanian Labor Inspection, which included the main economic sectors, around 46% of all employees in Romania receive the minimum job salary in the country. Workers with a gross monthly salary of above 700 euro are barely 16%.

A worrying trend in the Romanian labor market is the decrease of the share of qualified personnel, more specifically, the employees with higher education. On the opposite end, the share of unqualified personnel is increasing. This is most evident with the people who are under 30 years old, where the proportion of qualified to unqualified personnel is 1:2.

The new generation of employees are not as qualified as those before them, because the technical and vocational education is not adapted to the requirements of the labor market.

Most of the employees in Romania are in the manufacturing (1.23 mln.), followed by trade (890 000), transport and logistics (381 000) and construction (366 000).
