According to data from the Romanian National Statistical Institute, job vacancies in Romania have increased by 0.07% in the last quarter of 2018 in comparison to the same period in 2017. The increase is by 4 147 on an annual basis and has reached 58 810 at the end of 2018.
The workforce shortage in Romania is felt more in some fields such as services (3.4% job vacancies at the end of 2018), transport (1.9%) and IT (1.8%). Despite this, Romania is among the European countries with the lowest percentage of job vacancies.
Business representatives from the sphere of sea tourism are having more and more difficulties in finding seasonal employees and urge the government to facilitate the hiring of personnel from other countries. In spite of this, according to official data, there is only a small number of foreign employees, who are working in Romania. For 2018 г. the work permits issued to citizens of countries outside the EU, have been 9 500. According to the latest data (for July 2018) the citizens of countries outside the EU, which are working in Romania, are 17 089, which is a record for the country.
The unemployment in Romania is concentrated in the rural parts of the country, where the people are mostly unqualified and there is a lack of employment opportunities. Despite this, the workforce in Romania is not very mobile. According to experts from the World Bank, less than 2% of Romanians have moved in the last 5 years in search of a better job.
