Since yesterday, June 21st, a law was adopted in Romania, which significantly increases fines for those employers, who do not comply with overtime regulations.
Up until now, Romanian employers risked a fine between 1500 and 3000 RON, regardless of how many employees the provisions of the law have been violated for. From now on, despite the amount of the fine staying the same, it will be applicable for companies regarding each individual employee.
According to the initiators of the legislation, employees in Romania oftentimes have to work overtime, outside the law's parameters. In some cases, this practice is also applied by large companies with many employees, which is why the current fine of up to 3000 RON does not discourage them, which necessitated a change in the provision.
The severe fines are also provided for overtime work performed by part-time employees, overtime work of employees under 18 years of age, as well as for non-payment of overtime labour.
