More than 23 000 citizens of countries outside the EU have received a work permit for Romania in 2019. This number is twice as high as it was at the end of 2018 and three ties as high compared to 2017.

According to the General Emmigration Inspectorate in Romania, most of the foreign workers are from Turkey, China, Vietnam and Nepal. Most are Vietnam workers, followed by Turkey and Nepal.

One of the sectors that rely the most on foreign labor is construction and the workers are mostly from Asia. From the moment they are hired to their arrival in Romania and the actual start of work, it takes between 3 and 4 months.

Statistics show that there were approximately 97,000 job vacancies in the Romanian economy last year that companies failed to fill.
