Romania's unemployment rate in February dropped to 3.8%, according to data from the Romanian National Statistical Institute, as cited by Business Review. That's the lowest levels since more than two decades ago, according to statistics by the International Labour Organization (МОТ), which is available in Romania since 1993.
In January, 3,9% of Romania's active population was without a job, while in December it was 4%, according to the analysis. According to a report by КРМG and the National Institute for Economic Research, Romania will face a labour force deficit, as calculations show that in this year it will be around 300 thousand people and in 2023 it will increase to 549 thousand.
The emigration and the labour force deficit in Romania apply more and more pressure on employers, who can't find qualified personnel for their business. They claim that it is harder than ever to find people, who would work in fields such as construction or ship building, and prefer to hire foreigners. The Ministry of Labour of Romania claims that there are more than 60 000 job openings in the country but the companies can't find workers.
This year, the Romanian government adopted a decree, with which the quotas for foreign workers outside the EU in 2019 have increased to 20 000 work permits.
